If you observe your lights flickering while driving, it’s probably going to be from a dying battery. If the battery checks out fine, there are other trouble spots that are likely causing the issue. Whether it’s the car battery or something else, you should have the problem repaired ASAP. If your car lights aren’t working properly, you could become a hazard to yourself and other drivers.

If the car battery isn’t the cause of your flickering car lights, you might be looking at a bad bulb or a bad fuse. Failing bulbs are an easy and quick fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new LED bulbs.
If it’s a blown fuse, you may be dealing with a larger issue than you had originally anticipated. A fuse dies when there is too much electrical current runs through it. For example, if your anti-lock brakes are installed with a 10amp fuse, and the fuse receives over 10amps of electricity, the fuse will fail. In this example, your anti-lock brakes could fail due to the blown fuse. If there is a fuse that continues to fail, bring it in and we’ll diagnose the bigger, potentially more serious issue.
Flickering dashboard lights could also be signs the alternator is failing. Consider this, you start your vehicle with battery power, but the alternator supplies the power that keeps your vehicle running. If you drive an older vehicle with halogen headlights, you may see them get dimmer with a failing alternator. For newer cars with LED or HID lights, they may flicker on and off or just stop working altogether.
A dying light switch, whether it’s the headlight switch knob or the interior dimmer, should be checked out if you have flickering lights on your car. In some uncommon situations, just replacing a worn switch may solve the problem, especially in old vehicles or vehicles with excessive mileage. If your vehicle is new, there’s a possibility it could be symptoms of a bigger concern with the vehicle’s electrical system.
