What is a crew cab vs extended cab trucks?
It seems like no matter where you look, trucks are everywhere. The days where pickups were made only for work are long gone. These days, trucks can be upgraded to be as opulent as the most well-known names in luxury. There is a pickup out there for you, regardless of whether you want the lap of luxury or require a workhorse. Once you decide if you require 4-Wheel Drive (or if RWD will suffice), the next big decision is to decide what cab type is best for you.
As you might guess, a regular cab pickup truck features one row of seating with a small amount of legroom and storage space. A regular cab truck used to be the single way to purchase pickups. In nearly all regular cabs, the seatbacks practically touch the back side of the cab. This style is the more “work” version of a pickup and usually comes with manual locks and windows. A regular cab is made for work, not to haul your friends and family around.
As you could probably guess, an Extended Cab (sometimes called a Double Cab ) is just a Regular Cab with more room behind the front seating. When it was first introduced, extended cab pickup trucks were just available for purchase as 2-door models and only had small rear jump seats available. These days they may be called a Double Cab pickup truck, these trucks now have a second row of small doors for access to the cargo area. Despite having 2 rows of seating, an Extended Cab pickup wouldn’t be the best vehicle for long trips, even though it can haul more people.
While maybe not as obvious as the other cab types, a Crew Cab pickup features four regular-size doors and the room to transport, well, your ‘crew.’ Crew Cab trucks are made to haul more stuff and passengers. For some people, these styles of trucks have replaced the 4-door sedan as the family vehicle. A Crew Cab truck’s larger size and more powerful engine options are not seen in the 4-door sedan market while still being able to provide the legroom and comfort that families desire.
